You can write the best song of your life with AI in 2026 and still be unable to release it. The reason is not quality. It is downloads. Suno now caps them, and Udio switched them off completely. If you write with SONIQ and generate audio elsewhere, this is the one part of the workflow you need to plan around.
Suno: downloads are capped, not gone
Since September 3, 2026, Suno limits how many songs you can download. The Free plan gets 7 downloads in total, for personal use only. Pro gets 20 a month and Premier gets 60 a month, and paid users can buy extra downloads. Every song stays playable and shareable inside your Suno library.

Udio: you cannot download at all
Udio disabled downloads of audio, video and stems for every user on October 30, 2025, as part of its settlement with Universal Music Group. A one-time 48-hour window in early November 2025 has long since closed. As of September 2026, songs made in Udio can only be played and shared inside Udio.

A download-smart workflow for songwriters
The fix is to spend your downloads only on finished songs. That means doing the writing and the decisions before you ever press generate.
- Write the song first. Get the hook, structure and lyrics right in SONIQ before generating audio, so you are not burning takes on half-finished ideas.
- Generate, then edit, then download once. Use Suno v6's section edits to fix a chorus or a single line instead of regenerating the whole track.
- Share links for feedback. Send collaborators a Suno link for drafts. Save downloads for the version you will release.
- Keep your prompts and lyrics. Store them outside any platform, so you can rebuild a song if a model or a rule changes again.
